NXP makes good parts but I'm not sure that having them make the big decisions for the Freescale automotive product line is a positive development. It does probably help ensure the survival of the Freescale automotive product line, or most of it, since the big EU OEM will now be more inclined to use Freescale products. It's possible that's why Freescale sold out.

Well, NXP is larger than Freescale, but they don't have much outside of discrete components in the automotive arena. On the flip side, FS' Kinetis might be a nice complement to NXP's ARM line up too.

Would be interesting if a lot of FS' automotive stuff gets spawned off and sold to ST Micro.
