TI provides the HAL Code Generation Tool, a.k.a. HALCOGEN, to assist in configuring initial settings for the device's peripherals.

It is a graphical interface that runs on Windows; most everything can be set up here, from GPIO right up to memory protection units.

It generates "skeleton" code that can be exported into a project for further use and development within Code Composer Studio.

Code generated by HALCOGEN is BSD licensed, so can be redistributed. However parts of the code are considered "black box", which although that sounds like they may be obfuscated or such, it really means it is predefined code that might require modification within CCS in order to achieve the desired operation.

It is advised, as well, that even if starting a new project within CCS, HALCOGEN be used to do at least basic initializations due to the specific requirements of the TMS570's dual-core configuration.

Feel free to discuss.
